Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar Found Dead at Police Headquarters; Cause of Death Awaiting Post-Mortem
Agartala: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was found dead at the state police headquarters in Agartala on Monday. Officials said the exact cause of his death is yet to be determined and will be confirmed only after a post-mortem examination. According to Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Dhankar was rushed from his office chamber to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Dr. Pradip Bhaumik of GBP Hospital stated that Dhankar had no pulse or blood pressure on arrival. Despite immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), doctors were unable to revive him. Authorities have clarified that no official cause of death has been established so far, and speculation should be avoided until the post-mortem report is available. A 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and a noted cybercrime specialist, Dhankar took charge as Tripura DGP in May 2025. Before his appointment, he served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
