“Bogus doctor” arrested in Pune, is just SSC pass, say police
Pune city police have arrested a 57 year old man for allegedly working as a bogus doctor for several years. Police have identified the accused as Pramod Rajaram Gundu, resident of Bibvewadi. Dr Vasundhara Patil, a medical officer at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Khadak police station on May 2, 2025. As per the FIR, in September 2024, the PMC’s health department received a complaint against Gundu. Then, as per the orders of the Bogus Doctor Search Committee of the PMC, the complainant Patil initiated an inquiry against Gundu and also visited his “Padma Poly Clinic” at the Kasewadi slums in Bhavani Peth for checking his documents, the FIR stated. When contacted, Dr Patil said they found that Gundu was allegedly not registered with any medical councils, but was still providing treatment to the people. Dr Patil said details of this case were submitted to the legal department of the PMC. The FIR mentions that the legal department gave an opinion that Gundu was not having any authorised degree, so an offence be lodged against him as per the provisions of the section 33 (2) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961. Accordingly, Dr Patil lodged the FIR against Gundu at the Khadak police station. Police said that Gundu's application seeking anticipatory bail was rejected by the court in Pune and also by the Bombay High Court. Police then launched a search for him. A team led by police sub inspector Jaysingh Dadhe arrested him on November 6. “A court has remanded the accused Gundu to police custody till November 10 for further investigation. Probe so far has revealed that the accused is just an SSC pass, but was providing medical treatment to people illegally,” said sub inspector Dadhe.
